Summary
Want an easy way to manage your school clubs? Use a FirstClass conference to collaborate on group activities and have discussions.
• Create documents to outline processes.
• Use a FirstClass calendar to manage and track events and meetings.
• Use chat rooms for online meetings.
Example
Ann Jones is a grade 12 teacher at Avalon Academy. As the teacher representative of the debate club, she has decided to set up a Debate Club conference to help the group manage club activities.
Inside the Debate Club conference, she adds:
• a document called Club guidelines
• a calendar called Debate Club Calendar to schedule events and meetings
• a folder called Famous Debates in History, which contains a series of documents and bookmarks.
She also asks the FirstClass administrator to create a chat room called Debate room so she can hold online meetings (she does not have permissions to create chat rooms).
Ann sets permissions for the Debate Club so that she has full control over all content, and the club members can contribute to the conference. She also subscribes the students to the conference so it will appear on their FirstClass Desktops.
She sets "Message expiry" to Never so messages are not automatically deleted (if "Message expiry" is set to a number of days, messages are deleted after that time).
The club members use this conference as a forum to organize events, set up debates, and share information.
Ann sometimes holds debates in the Debate room. On the Attachments tab, she can provide files in the chat room for the members to download if necessary.
